To fully experience both the city and Lake Como, we recommend the following two-day itinerary to help you make the most of your short stay and plan the must-see highlights.
Start your first day in Como by following the detailed itinerary in our dedicated section. Consider adding these extra suggestions to enhance your experience and complete your tour of this enchanting destination.
Begin your second day with a leisurely stroll along Lungolario Trieste, where you can soak in the breathtaking lake views and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. Pause for a break at one of the many restaurants, bars, or ice cream shops along the promenade. At the end of the walk, you will reach Villa Geno, built in the 1700s, with its stunning garden and a large fountain that shoots water up to nearly 40 meters high.
Head back towards Piazza Cavour, passing the Duomo, where you will be captivated by the grand Teatro Sociale and the Casa del Fascio, one of Italy’s most iconic examples of rationalist architecture. From here, wander to the lively Piazza San Fedele, home to its eponymous church, which once served as the Roman forum. The square is surrounded by medieval buildings with exposed wooden beams, vivid colors, and distinctive brick walls arranged in a herringbone pattern.
Leaving the square, head towards Porta Torre, where you can glimpse the remains of the medieval city walls. Remarkably, 70% of the original perimeter still stands, and Porta Torre, at 40 meters high, is one of the most impressive gateways to the city.
To end your second day, lose yourself in the charming medieval alleyways of Como’s historic center. Stroll along Via Vitani, Via Bonanomi, and Via Del Pero, where time seems to stand still. The unexpected charm of these streets will lead you back to Piazza Cavour and Piazza Volta, where your journey began.
